Hello & Thank You Marco for Hosting us at your Beautiful Hair Studio in the Heart of West Hollywood Design District. Marco, your journey is remarkable – not just as a world-renowned hair colorist but also as an educator, salon owner, and consultant. What motivates you to share your expertise with others in the industry?
Marco Pelusi: The one who talks and teaches the most, also learns the most. As a teacher, I have learned so much as I’m teaching! It’s ingrained in my brain and my heart and soul. When I once saw a hair-color educator on stage, when I was a very young hairdresser, I knew that that’s what I had to do; that was my calling! I also am very passionate about hair-color, and what I do. And I love communicating with people.
Your passion is certainly inspiring, to myself and many others. Speaking of inspiration, can you give us a sneak peek into what audiences can expect from our Oscar-worthy Hollywood Glam session at your super luxe Hair Studio in the heart of the West Hollywood Design District?
MP Easy, quick, fun tips, and tricks on how to get beach waves! What products to use, how to keep it simple when styling!
Love it — low maintenance without sacrificing high quality glamour! Let’s take it back a bit to celebrate nearly two decades of haircare excellence in the heart of the West Hollywood's Design District. What inspired you to open your doors nearly twenty years ago, and how has the creative environment shaped your color care services?
MP: I was blessed I was able to infuse my talents and connections and experience all together. I had a successful history as a hair-color educator worldwide, and I also had been developing an entertainment clientele, including some celebrities. But on top of all of this, I truly wanted to create haircare products. And I knew I needed a showplace to do it. And I loved West Hollywood. And I absolutely love my location. It’s an oasis in the middle of Robertson Boulevard!
It truly is a sanctuary of beauty, health, and wellness. On that note, we’re very excited to introduce your full-service hair care line, the Marco® Collagen Color Guard® HairCare System. Please share with us what sets it apart as a game-changer for color and chemically-treated hair?
MP: After working in-house at hair-color manufacturers in my 20s, creating hair-color and haircare products on behalf of others, I knew I wanted to create my own! I went back to a family friend, who is a chemist, and I explained that I wanted something specifically to prevent premature hair color fading and to provide a therapeutic environment for both the hair and the scalp. Collagen — naturally occurring collagen — is the game-changer. Collagen for the hair. It fills in all of the damaged sites on the hair and creates a lovely, smooth surface for the hair color to shine through.
Your passion and commitment to haircare innovation speaks for itself, and set the standard for prestige haircare lines. Speaking of, the 96th Academy Awards Oscars ceremony is literally just around the corner on March 10th. What hair color and styling trends do you predict will steal the spotlight on the red-carpet this year?
MP: I’m looking forward to seeing some of the “butterfly“ - longer layers around the face with some longer, softer bang areas. Hair-color wise, we will be seeing a bit of pop of color in this front area of the hair as well. And long sexy waves…

Can you share any memorable moments or behind-the-scenes stories from a favorite transformation?
MP: Yes, Stacy Keibler, who was dating George Clooney at the time, asked me to color her hair, prior to being on the cover of Maxim magazine. This is a few years back when magazine covers were still the cool thing. Seeing her hair on the cover was one of the biggest most fun moments of my career. I also have had the opportunity to work on George. Very cool to have been able to go to his house.
Wow, what an incredible experience. It’s amazing to know you were the haircare maestro behind Stacy’s iconic MAXIM cover look. We all know that staying on top of hair color trends can be challenging. How do you keep up with the ever-changing world of hair color trends and stay ahead of the curve?
MP: I go by feel and instincts… What are people asking of me at the moment? What’s going on in Europe? What old trends are coming back? What retro trend will look good? These are the questions I ask myself often. And I also do research.
Amazing. I appreciate your intuitive sense of timeless beauty while remaining of the cutting edge of fashion and design. For those aspiring to make it big in the industry, what advice do you have for up-and-coming hair color artists and salon owners?
MP: To be a good communicator. Know what you want. Technical information and knowledge are essential, but it’s really only about 20% of the total picture; I truly believe that 80% of being successful in this career is about communication.
100%. Communication is key to all great client care relationships. As we begin to close out our conversation, what excites you the most about this live event, and what do you hope the audience takes away from our live Oscars Hollywood Glamour session?
MP: I love communicating with people, I love developing relationships! I hope the audience can take one small item of knowledge with them! I also hope that they feel good after seeing this!
